The eMCO-SiPO Project focuses on <\/span>safety-critica<\/b>l topics such as <\/span>extended Minimum Crew Operations<\/b> and <\/span>Single-Pilot Operations<\/b>, aiming to provide invaluable insights into five key research fields: <\/span>safety risk assessment and monitoring, human factors and performance, air operations, fatigue risk management, and flight training<\/b>. While the project is still in its early stages, the Consortium already structured the work around <\/span>eight <\/b>different tasks, each focusing on a specific aspect of the project. The first<\/span> six tasks<\/b> of the project investigate Extended Minimum Crew Operations, while the<\/span> last two <\/b>tasks focus on Single Pilot Operations. While in eMCO there is always a minimum of two pilots on-board of the aircraft, in SiPO there is only one pilot on board from end-to-end, for the whole flight. In eMCO, there would be one pilot at the controls only during the cruise phase, while the other(s) take turns to rest in that phase of flight.<\/span><\/p>\n The activities that the project will perform range from assessing the potential safety hazards during normal operations in cruise flight to evaluating the effects of in-flight rest during extended single-pilot operations, to studying the effects of <\/span>in-flight rest <\/b>and different types of in-flight rest facilities on <\/span>pilots’ alertness and <\/b>overall <\/span>fatigue<\/b> level, as well as the opportunities for <\/span>physiological breaks<\/b> during eMCO and SiPO. The tasks also involve a variety of research methods, such as <\/span>consultations <\/b>with Original Equipment Manufacturers, <\/span>surveys<\/b>, <\/span>workshops<\/b>, and <\/span>simulator experiments<\/b>, all useful to identify potential <\/span>safety hazards<\/b> and <\/span>develop mitigation<\/b> means for failure conditions.<\/span><\/p>\n In addition, the project analyses the Single Pilot Operations generic concept of operations, identifying the <\/span>gaps <\/b>and <\/span>open issues <\/b>to perform a <\/span>preliminary risk identification<\/b>. The results of these tasks are crucial for<\/span> enhancing the safety<\/b> and <\/span>efficiency <\/b>of Extended Minimum Crew Operations and Single Pilot Operations, as well as for informing<\/span> future regulations <\/b>and <\/span>guidelines <\/b>in the aviation industry. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div> This field in the eMCO-SiPO project focuses on evaluating and monitoring the safety risks associated with extended minimum crew operations and single pilot operations. Through systematic assessments and data monitoring, potential safety hazards are identified, and their impact on overall safety is analysed.
