While the project is still in its early stages, the Consortium already structured the work around <\/span><b>eight <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">different tasks, each focusing on a specific aspect of the project. The first<\/span><b> six tasks<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the project investigate Extended Minimum Crew Operations, while the<\/span><b> last two <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">tasks focus on Single Pilot Operations. While in eMCO there is always a minimum of two pilots on-board of the aircraft, in SiPO there is only one pilot on board from end-to-end, for the whole flight. In eMCO, there would be one pilot at the controls only during the cruise phase, while the other(s) take turns to rest in that phase of flight.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The activities that the project will perform range from assessing the potential safety hazards during normal operations in cruise flight to evaluating the effects of in-flight rest during extended single-pilot operations, to studying the effects of <\/span><b>in-flight rest <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and different types of in-flight rest facilities on <\/span><b>pilots&#8217; alertness and <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">overall <\/span><b>fatigue<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> level, as well as the opportunities for <\/span><b>physiological breaks<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> during eMCO and SiPO. The tasks also involve a variety of research methods, such as <\/span><b>consultations <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with Original Equipment Manufacturers, <\/span><b>surveys<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>workshops<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><b>simulator experiments<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, all useful to identify potential <\/span><b>safety hazards<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>develop mitigation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> means for failure conditions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition, the project analyses the Single Pilot Operations generic concept of operations, identifying the <\/span><b>gaps <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><b>open issues <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to perform a <\/span><b>preliminary risk identification<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
