Highly automated systems are now capable of tasks previously reserved for humans, often with increased efficiency and speed. However,<\/span><b> these advancements bring new challenges<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, particularly in <\/span><b>building trust, ensuring ethical use and achieving certification for AI-driven systems in aviation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To address these challenges, the project HUCAN has developed a <\/span><b>Certification Glossary<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a new key resource designed to <\/span><b>provide clarity and consistency<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for stakeholders navigating the complexities of certifying advanced automation systems. HUCAN invites the SESAR community to leverage this resource and collaborate in shaping the future of ATM.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The glossary is available as an open-access document<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, ensuring its benefits are widely shared among researchers, industry, and regulators.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><div ><a class=\"fusion-button button-flat fusion-button-default-size button-default fusion-button-default button-1 fusion-button-default-span fusion-button-default-type\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/research.dblue.it\/hucan\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2024\/11\/Hucan_OfficialGlossary.pdf\"><span class=\"fusion-button-text awb-button__text awb-button__text--default\">Download the Glossary<\/span><\/a><\/div><div class=\"fusion-separator fusion-full-width-sep\" style=\"align-self: center;margin-left: auto;margin-right: auto;margin-bottom:15px;width:100%;\"><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-2\"><p><b>The glossary consolidates definitions and terminology from various EU regulations<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, including the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/eli\/reg\/2024\/1689\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AI Act (2024)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/eli\/reg\/2016\/679\/oj\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">GDPR<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.easa.europa.eu\/en\/domains\/research-innovation\/ai\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">EASA AI Roadmap<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> while also incorporating inputs from <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sesarju.eu\/ai\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SESAR AI framework<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/digital-strategy.ec.europa.eu\/en\/policies\/expert-group-ai\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">EU HLEG-AI<\/span><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/digital-strategy.ec.europa.eu\/en\/library\/ethics-guidelines-trustworthy-ai\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ethics guidelines for trustworthy AI<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. It highlights discrepancies across frameworks, provides harmonized terminology, and is organized into three sectitions:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Automation and AI<\/strong>: technical definitions related to AI technologies<\/li>\n<li><strong>AI Regulation and Certification<\/strong>: requirements and lifecycle roles for AI systems<\/li>\n<li><strong>Society and Ethics<\/strong>: social and ethical considerations, such as privacy and fairness<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Certification Glossary was <\/span><b>unveiled at the SESAR Innovation Days 2024<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, where it was recognized as a foundational tool for supporting SESAR projects in designing and certifying innovative technologies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As <\/span><b>Oznur Uygur<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, SESAR Programme Manager for HUCAN, explains: <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Integrating higher levels of automation into ATM is essential to meet the sector&#8217;s evolving demands. To achieve this, we need targeted research and tools to ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks while fostering innovation.
