HUCAN recently shared key insights from its research on AI in aviation<\/strong> and automation certification<\/strong> at two major international conferences, reinforcing its role in shaping future regulatory frameworks for a human-centric ATM system.<\/p>\n

On 25 June 2025<\/strong>, Domenico Pascarella [CIRA<\/a>] presented the paper \u201cGaps and Challenges in Automation Assessment to Support Human-Centric Aviation Certification<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u201d<\/em> at the Human-Computer Interaction International Conference<\/a> (HCII 2025)<\/strong>.
The paper builds on HUCAN\u2019s research exploring the link between automation levels<\/strong> and future certification requirements<\/strong> in ATM systems<\/strong>. Using a set of case studies \u2013 including technologies such as AI-based digital assistants<\/strong> \u2013 the work examines how automation can be assessed and classified. The goal is to support a consistent application of the EASA AI levels<\/strong> in aviation research and innovation projects<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Earlier, on 11 June 2025<\/strong>, Elisa Spiller [Deep Blue<\/a>] participated in the 2nd Florence Aviation Regulation Conference<\/strong><\/a>, presenting the paper \u201cTowards the Implementation of the AI Act in Aviation: Challenges and Strategies<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.\u201d <\/em>The study focuses on the intersection between the EU AI Act<\/strong><\/a> and the current aviation regulatory framework<\/strong>, highlighting how the AI Act can inform and support the development of sector-specific rules. It also addresses the need for future alignment between the AI Act and aviation regulations, as outlined in Article 2(2)<\/strong> of the Regulation.<\/p>\n

Both contributions align with the objectives of the EASA AI Roadmap<\/strong><\/a>, supporting a coherent and forward-looking approach to AI regulation in aviation<\/strong>, as capabilities continue to evolve.<\/p>\n
