On 27 May, the SPATIO project was in the spotlight during the EUROCONTROL LearningZone Webinar: “SPATIO: Advanced UAS Separation Management”, where it showcased its cutting-edge solutions for managing unmanned aerial systems (UAS) separation—from the strategic planning phase to real-time tactical operations.

As part of the SESAR JU U-space and Urban Air Mobility webinar series, the session attracted 177 participants from 45 countries, with attendees staying connected for an average of 71.45 minutes, demonstrating strong engagement and growing interest in the safe integration of drones into European airspace.

The session, moderated by Pablo Sánchez-Escalonilla (ENAIRE), featured focused presentations from Elena Cabellos (INDRA) on the strategic phase and Khushboo Wadhwani (Collins Aerospace) on the tactical phase. The integration between the two layers was also discussed, offering a holistic perspective on SPATIO’s solutions for enabling the safe and secure simultaneous operation of drones, particularly in high-risk areas such as airport vicinities.

Building on past SESAR projects like DACUS, BUBBLES, and TindAIR, SPATIO is pushing the boundaries of current UAS regulation. Its work promises broad impacts across the drone ecosystem—from UAS manufacturers and operators to U-space service providers and CIS providers—helping ensure safe airspace integration and wider societal acceptance, especially in urban contexts.

As drones continue to transform industries from logistics to infrastructure inspection, SPATIO’s contributions are helping shape the future of safe and integrated airspace management in Europe.
