The aspiration of this new SESAR 3 Joint Undertaking project is to investigate and develop an Artificial Intelligence solution for use in\u00a0 the Remote Digital Tower (RDT) environment, through the optimisation of\u00a0 a trusted intelligent system design.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Remote Digital Towers\u00a0 stand as one of the most recent innovations in air traffic management , providing airports with remote traffic flow and capacity management. In contrast to conventional control towers, RDTs utilise video transmission, allowing the provision of airport air traffic services from virtually any location. This advancement holds the potential for substantial improvements in operational efficiency and effectiveness.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the air traffic control sector, where management of safety is critical, the reliability and trustworthiness of AI-based decisions are essential. For this reason TRUSTY&#8217;s research activities rely on state-of-the-art developments in interactive data visualisation and user-centric explanation, coupled with recent technological advancements in AI accuracy, robustness, interpretability, fairness, and accountability.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe potential result will be a proof-of-concept of a trustworthy intelligent system for RDTs which will lead to higher automation to ensure safe and reliable decision support\u201d<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> states Prof. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/mad02\/\">Mobyen Uddin Ahmed<\/a>, project coordinator and expert in explainable artificial intelligence.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The achievement of the above mentioned outcome relies on the cooperative efforts of four partners from three countries: Sweden, Italy, and France. This consortium comprises three academic institutions and a research\/consultancy company.
