At some of Europe’s busiest airports, air traffic controllers (ATCOs) face complex challenges every single day. For instance, managing a dense flow of arrivals and departures requires sharp focus, flawless coordination, and swift decision-making. As air travel continues to increasingly grow, so too does the complexity of keeping our skies and runways safe and efficient. Funded by SESAR 3 JU, TADA’s mission is to develop an innovative, ATM-dedicated digital assistant.  Specifically, the TADA tool will support ATCOs in managing incoming flights, seamlessly integrating advanced artificial intelligence with human expertise.

To better understand what TADA is doing, the Team produced a teaser video that offers a high-level glimpse into what TADA is all about. In less than a minute, the video highlights the core of TADA: digital tools and human operators collaborating in perfect synergy to keep air traffic flowing safely and predictably.

Co-designed with End-users

A crucial part of TADA’s approach is user-centred design. From the very beginning, the project has actively engaged end-users (ATCOs) along with key stakeholders from the aviation industry. Through regular interaction with stem, the Team ensures that the solution meets real operational needs.

This collaborative process goes beyond just gathering opinions. In fact, it’s about deeply understanding the working environment of controllers, the nuances of their daily tasks, and the pressures they face. As a result, their insights directly shape how the digital assistant functions, what features it prioritises, and how its interface will look and feel.

By involving end users at every step, TADA’s building not only a technically advanced tool, but one that is practical and user-centric, that truly supports air traffic management.

Looking ahead with TADA Digital Assistant

As the TADA project progresses, the Team continue refining our prototypes, running simulations, and conducting validation exercises, always keeping close ties with the ATCO community and broader aviation stakeholders. The ultimate goal is a robust, trustworthy system that integrates seamlessly into existing workflows, strengthens safety, and improves efficiency across European airspace.
