Presented at IICAIET 2024 (Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, 26th–28th August 2024), this paper addresses key research issues and challenges in developing trustworthy AI. Drawing on experiences from ongoing projects at Mälardalen University (MDU), Sweden, it explores practical, real-world scenarios in mobility, transportation, and healthcare. The study highlights critical technical components that underpin trustworthy AI, including fairness, safety, transparency, explainability, accountability, rigorous testing, verification, and a human-centric approach. These elements reflect current state-of-the-art practices in the field, providing guidance for developing reliable and socially responsible AI systems.
