CONTEXT 3
Change of Production Intensity
CONTEXT 3
Change of Production Intensity
Description
The production intensity suddenly increases or decreases resulting in a need to promptly employ new workers for a set period of time, or to internally reorganise staff effort throughout different production processes. The new workers may come from other internal departments or external organisations to support the increase in the production intensity. The new workers are likely to require some training to do the work. A manufacturing setting may need to involve external operators for a short period of time in order to be able to meet the new production needs. The new workers may come from other internal departments or external organisations, and are likely to require some training to do the work. The production will reverse back to the original set up once the reconfiguration need has ended (i.e., the modification is temporary).
Main challanges
Sudden increase in the number of workers (recruitment, workplace adaptation)
Quick training and adaptation of temporary workers to new working conditions
Retention of knowledge from temporary staff
impact
- The majority of the working processes and procedures surrounding the production do not change
- There are members of staff who know the production process well and can support the new workers
