Project Overview

DIALOG is an exploratory research project designed to enhance collaboration between air traffic controllers (ATCOs) and artificial intelligence (AI) systems in air traffic management. By leveraging real-time assessments of ATCOs’ workload, attention, and intent, DIALOG aims to develop and validate an AI-based digital assistant, the Teamwork Assistant, to anticipate and provide timely, context-aware support for human operators.

DIALOG Objectives

DIALOG aims to promote humans AI collaboration (level 2B AI) by introducing AI as a team player

SCIENTIFIC, INNOVATION, AND RESEARCH OBJECTIVES (SIO)

Develop a framework for integrating AI systems into human-AI teams, enabling AI to anticipate human needs and provide tailored support.

TECHNOLOGICAL OBJECTIVES (TO):

Design and implement the Teamwork Assistant, an AI-powered tool utilizing machine learning to monitor ATCOs’ state in real time, based on voice, physiology, and behavioral data.

IMPACT AND SOCIETAL OBJECTIVES (ISO):

Foster the adoption of advanced human-AI teamwork systems, enhancing safety, efficiency, and trust in air traffic management operations
