As the aviation sector accelerates toward ATM modernization, the DIALOG project is taking a closer look at the operational reality of Human-AI teaming. We are excited to release our latest video feature: a two-part journey that brings you directly inside the control room with Robin and Fabian, active Air Traffic Controllers (ATCOs) at DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung.

Taking the 3-2-1 Challenge with the Teamwork Assistant

What is it actually like to work alongside an Artificial Intelligence in a safety critical environment? To answer this, we asked Robin and Fabian to take on the “3-2-1 Challenge” with the DIALOG Teamwork Assistant. In this dynamic segment, the controllers provide rapid, frontline insights into how our digital concept integrates into their workflow. They highlight the practical impact on their cognitive workload and explain how the system is designed to maintain their situational awareness during complex airspace management operations.

Building Operational Trust in Aviation

Following the challenge, the video transitions into an in-depth interview on the broader implications of AI in aviation. Bringing advanced automation into Air Traffic Management requires more than just innovative algorithms. Robin and Fabian discuss the daily realities of their profession and what it truly takes to build operational trust between a human operator and an automated system.

They emphasize a core philosophy of the DIALOG project: transparency and human agency are non negotiable. The AI must act as a reliable teammate that safely supports strategic decision making, rather than a black box that overrides human expertise.
