On 23 June 2023, HERON attended the Paris Air Show taking place at the Le Bourget Parc des Expositions. This exhibition brings together all the players in the aviation global industry around the latest technological innovations in the field. The 54th edition attracted 300.000 visitors from 48 countries, consolidating its status as the world’s leading aerospace show.

HERON was presented by the project coordinator Mattia Nurisso (Airbus) during the ALBATROSS pitch at the European Commission exhibition stand, where the SESAR 3 JU projects hosted a series of briefings for participants interested in finding out more about European Air Traffic Management modernisation efforts.

HERON is a follow-up to ALBATROSS, a two-year very large-scale demonstration that performed a series of gate-to-gate live trials across Europe for fuel-efficient flights. ALBATROSS fostered innovations such as optimised flight operations from climb-out to descent for landing, and hybrid assistance for aircraft movements on the ground. HERON’s goal is to pursue the deployment of already-mature solutions as key steps toward achieving the air transport industry’s objective of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

SESAR 3 JU was also present with the Paris Air Lab, highlighting its aim to make Europe the most environmentally friendly sky to fly in the world with solutions that support greener taxiing, climate-optimised trajectories, and more energy-efficient approaches and landings at airports.
