Following months of technical preparation and successful dry runs, the DIALOG project has officially entered its operational validation phase. This week, our team is gathered at the ONERA facilities in Salon-de-Provence to put our concept to the ultimate test.

We have transitioned from isolated lab environments to real-time simulation. For the next few days, we are welcoming expert Air Traffic Controllers (ATCOs) and pseudo-pilots into the simulation room to evaluate the system hands-on.

Moving from Theory to Practice

The core focus of these trials is the Teamwork Assistant. This AI tool is designed to understand pilot-controller communications, monitor the cognitive state of the operator, and provide the right support just when it is needed.

Until now, much of the work has focused on system architecture and multimodal synchronization. Today, the technology is real, tangible, and actively evaluated by the end-users. Our primary objective is to observe how this Human-AI collaboration functions in a simulated operational environment, specifically looking at its potential to actively reduce operator stress and increase overall efficiency in the control room.

The Value of Human-in-the-Loop

Developing advanced technology for Air Traffic Management requires more than just clean data. Having ATCOs in the loop is the only way to ensure our solutions are genuinely helpful, operationally viable, and aligned with the safety standards required for the future Digital European Sky.

The consortium wants to extend a huge thank you to the controllers and pseudo-pilots joining us in the simulator, and to all the partners whose hard work made this milestone possible.

Follow the Updates

Over the coming days, we will gather actionable knowledge and record the direct experiences of the professionals testing the system.
